We are rich as trolls) showcases works from MYCKET’s production over recent years, connected to the artistic research by design project Troll Perception in the Heartlands. The exhibition’s theme centers on the devastation capitalism inflicts on the living planet, rooted in the belief that resources are infinite and time is scarce. When in reality, it’s the opposite—time is all we have, and resources are finite. In the spirit of Gunvor Guttorm’s insight that “crafting doesn’t take time, it gives time,” MYCKET explores partially forgotten craft techniques such as weaving with willow, rush, and spruce root; creating clay paint; and wood carving. The exhibition includes assemblages, sculptures, animation, and paintings in three different spatial settings. All pieces reflect MYCKET’s new role as shapeshifters rather than designers. The spatial design itself is part of the exploration of self-made clay paint. All works in the exhibition are crafted from found or harvested materials like bottle gourds, rush, willow, bones, and discarded items that have become treasures. One section also displays works created in collaboration with fourth graders from Skogsborgsskolan and other children who have participated in MYCKET’s workshops over the years. The exhibition is accompanied by an educational program curated by MYCKET, with a focus on clay paint and sculpture. Katrineholms Konsthall, September 28 – November 23, 2024 Photo: Myra Wippler Vi är rika som troll Vi är rika som troll visar verk ur MYCKETs produktion de senaste åren, kopplade till det konstnärliga forskningsprojektet ‘Trollsyn i hjärtmarkerna’. Temat för utställningen är kapitalismens förödelse av den levande planeten som bygger på en uppfattning om att resurser är oändliga och tid är något som vi har ont om. När det egentligen är tvärtom! Tid är det enda vi har, det är resurserna som är ändliga. I Gunvor Guttorms anda att ‘hantverk tar inte tid, det ger tid’ utforskar MYCKET delvis glömda hantverkstekniker som pil-, säv och granrotsflätning; skapar lerfärg och täljer i trä. I utställningen visas assemblage, skulpturer,&nbsp; animation och måleri i tre olika rumsligheter. Allt är gjort utifrån MYCKETs nya position som formskiftare istället för formgivare. Den rumsliga gestaltningen är också del av undersökningen av egentillverkad lerfärg i stor skala. Alla verk i utställningen består av funnet eller skördat material såsom kalebass, säv, pil, kotor och skräp som blivit till skatter. En del av utställningen visar också verk som gjorts i samarbete med Skogsborgsskolans fjärdeklassare och andra barn som deltagit i MYCKETS verkstäder genom åren. +0000 MYCKET https://mycket.org/The-Secret-Garden The Secret Garden The Secret Garden is a living sculpture covering an area of 200 square meters, located at Utsikten, the outdoor educational exhibition space at ArkDes. By utilizing traditional craft techniques, repurposed and natural materials, MYCKET is creating an enchanted garden throughout 2024-2025. This garden will evolve and transform through play and creativity together with ArkDes’ younger visitors. The design of the Secret Garden draws inspiration from a story about a pack of wolf-like trolls living in the ancient rock directly beneath the garden (discovered on the topographical map). This is manifested by a wolf’s ear that peeks up from the ground - complete with an earring in the shape of an ouroboro (the snake biting its own tail, symbolizing death and rebirth). Besides human children, insects and birds have also been invited to the space, which has additionally hosted an extensive cultivation of bottle gourds. These gourds are being used by MYCKET in our research project on circular design. The Secret Garden goes into hibernation over the winter to be reawakened in the spring of 2025. The Secret Garden at ArkDes has been created by an entire team, with special thanks to Johannes Riesterer and the after-school group from Filosofiska Skolan in Skarpnäck. Den hemliga trädgårdens gestaltning tar avstamp i sagan om en flock vargliknande troll som bor i urberget rakt under trädgården (återfunnen i den topografiska kartan) och manifesteras genom det vargöra som tittar upp ur marken -&nbsp; med tillhörande örhänge i form av en ouroboro (ormen som biter sig själv i svansen som symbol för död och pånyttfödelse). Förutom mänskliga barn har även insekter och fåglar bjudits in till platsen, vilken också agerat värd åt en omfattande odling av kalebasser som MYCKET använder i sitt forskningsprojekt om cirkulär formgivning. Utsikten går under vintern i ide för att återuppväckas våren 2025. Utsikten på ArkDes har skapats av en hel flock, med särskilt tack till Johannes Riesterer och fritidsgruppen från Filosofiska skolan i Skarpnäck. An island for finding a home in the landscape, a home in time, with those who came before and those who come after, for those who work here and those who visit. Disasters and rebirth. When an island rises from the sea, all worry ceases. The ants in the blood disappear. Completely free in my insignificance, despite the sulfur smell, I breathe again. On November 14, 1963, an island was born from the sea south of Iceland. It formed through a submarine volcanic eruption 130 meters along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. People squabbled over the name, but eventually christened it Surtsey, after the underground ruler of fire, the giant Surtr. Just a couple of weeks later, gulls and seagulls began to appear there between volcanic eruptions. Insects and microbes hovered over the island. Ocean currents brought seeds, and by the summer of 1965, the first sea rocket plant grew on Surtsey’s black shore. Four years later, when the volcano calmed, the island was 2.7 km² in size. The island, whose 60th anniversary we’ve just celebrated, has since partially eroded and sunk. It is now 1.4 km², the same size as Södertälje’s city center, including Torekällberget. Like Surtsey, Södertälje Art Gallery’s Hemö is a new place, but it is not made of anything new; instead, it consists of things that spill, brood, and bloom when they receive warmth and nourishment. Hemö was installed in March 2024. Among other things, pattern collages were created together with the village's children and their adults on the theme of trolls and their homes based on the library's rare books. The results were later compiled into wallpaper. Wall-to-wall carpet and fabrics are recycled. The redesigned children's section at Vingåker's library was inaugurated in the spring of 2024. Vittrelek MYCKET har tillsammans med personal på Vingåkers folkbibliotek gett barnavelningen ny färg och form. Bland annat skapades mönstercollage tillsammans med bygdens barn och deras vuxna på temat trollfolk och deras hem utifrån bibliotekets gallrade böcker. Resultaten sammanställdes senare till tapet som pryder väggarna. Matta och tyg är återbruk. In collaboration with Max Goldstein (The Landscape Team) The starting point for the design process is that we, MYCKET &amp; Landskapslaget, together with the municipality's planners Sofie Nilsson and Eljesa Kasa create a tight, creative and thoughtful team. In an innovative and productive process - where we learn from each other - we examine, analyze and formulate a structural plan with an unwavering equality focus. Our joint team constitutes a broad representation where everyone enriches the process based on their respective experiences, skills and know-how. Additional perspectives are addressed through MYCKETs developed role play exercises, which we embedd into our joint workshops. The path to the final product takes place through a co-creation process supported and managed by MYCKET &amp; Landskapslaget. Through our considerable experience in process management, we have developed a joyful method characterized by generous hospitality. It is based on care and listening, creates a great ability to take advantage of the unpredictable, the complex and the irritating. Something that is a prerequisite for being able to implement spatial equality. We set up the work so that the form of participation is a completely integrated part of the project's implementation. The structure plan is jointly designed by the entire team through knowledge exchange, sketching and spatial design which is developed through concrete proposals, D-I-G's (Doing-in-groups/workshops) and role-plays/activities. MYCKET &amp; Landskapslaget support with memory notes, drawing in CAD, structuring, convening, summarizing analyzes and descriptions and producing diagrams and illustrations/renderings. The grief, the struggle and the party belong together - the laughter may save us from charring and the world from burning up.By 2030, we must halve the planet's carbon dioxide emissions, otherwise we don't even have a chance to reach the 1.5 degree target. 1 ton of carbon dioxide per person per year if we were to distribute the emissions fairly. If we fail, 90% of the Earth's surface could be uninhabitable in 50 years. Currently, emissions are constantly increasing and the political conflicts are piling up. 'Collective suicide pact' is what UN Secretary-General António Guterres calls it - a generalized environmental anxiety syndrome with practiced avoidance behaviors through which we protect ourselves from the great discomfort of fully taking in the situation. Or, can we stop now and form a global pack? We hope for the German economic journalist Ulrike Herrman's prophecy of being saved by the British war economy from 1939. She believes that it can serve as a model for a possible path towards the circular economy of the future. Literally translated from German, the title of her latest book is "The end of capitalism - why growth (also read green growth) and climate protection are not compatible - and how we will live in the future". We also place our hope in various sorcerers and witches, fairy tales and legends.
