Beaktroll Mitzy
What happens to a wish when no one sees the shooting star? We believe it lands in an apple. Cut the apple crosswise and you will see the star-shaped core at its centre. That is where the wish lies. And when you eat the apple, you get to make a wish.
The work began in the bedrock beneath Skogsborgsskolan in Katrineholm. On a topographic map of the area, we saw the outline of beaktroll. Using our troll perception, we began exploring the school grounds together with fourth-grade pupils. By troll perception, we mean an approach that draws inspiration from fairy tales, folklore and more-than-human beings to expand our imagination and find inventive ways of living with the planet rather than at its expense.
During the spring of 2024, we explored the map and the large boulder outside the sports hall. The children had recently learned about the ice sheet, but we could still imagine together: what if the beaktroll had rolled the boulder there? We touched, listened to and looked at the map lichen growing on it. Using clay, drawings and words, the children created magical additions, creatures and wishes connected to the boulder. Their work was exhibited at the school and later in our exhibition We are rich as trolls (2024) at Katrineholms konsthall.
The figure of the beaktroll grew out of the children’s clay figures, the creature we had seen in the map, and Gatsubergstrollet – a troll from local folklore in Katrineholm. The children also helped name the work: Beaktroll Mitzy. In the completed work, the small bronze sculpture sits on a stone holding an apple in its hands. An apple tree has been planted there, while an image projected onto the façade of the sports hall gives the story of the shooting star a place in the school grounds. Together, these elements invite us to discover the magical in the everyday.
The work was inaugurated in autumn 2025.

Näbbtrollet Mitzy
Arbetet med Näbbtrollet Mitzy började i urberget under Skogsborgsskolan i Katrineholm. På en topografisk karta över området såg vi konturerna av ett näbbtroll. Med hjälp av vår trollsyn började vi utforska skolgården tillsammans med eleverna i årskurs fyra. Med trollsyn menar vi ett förhållningssätt där vi hämtar inspiration från sagor, sägner och mer-än-mänskliga varelser för att vidga vår föreställningsförmåga och hitta uppfinningsrika sätt att leva med planeten, inte på bekostnad av den.
Under våren 2024 undersökte vi kartan och den stora stenbumlingen utanför idrottshallen. Barnen hade nyligen lärt sig om inlandsisen, men vi kunde ändå fantisera tillsammans: tänk om näbbtrollet hade rullat dit stenen? Vi kände, lyssnade och tittade på kartlaven som växte på den. Med lera, teckningar och ord formade barnen magiska tillägg, varelser och önskningar som hörde samman med stenen. Deras arbeten ställdes ut på skolan och senare i vår utställning Vi är rika som troll (2024) på Katrineholms konsthall.
Näbbtrollets gestalt växte fram med inspiration från barnens lerfigurer, varelsen i kartan och Gatsubergstrollet – den lokala sägenfiguren från Katrineholm. Barnen var med och namngav verket – Näbbtrollet Mitzy.
I det färdiga verket sitter det lilla näbbtrollet i brons på en sten med ett äpple i händerna. Ett äppelträd är planterat och en bildprojektion på idrottshallens fasad ger sagan om stjärnfallet en plats på skolgården. Tillsammans bjuder de in till att upptäcka det magiska i det vardagliga.
Verket invigdes hösten 2025.
